Argentino M1879 Rolling Block. Is it worth restoring?

Methylated spirits (isopropyl achohol in this case) on an old desk:








No raised grain or anything. Just soaked some paper towels and spread them on the surface a while. Before it dries- commence to wiping up the gunk! Doesn't work on everything, but it won't hurt the wood (unless done to extremes).
