For one thing, I always forget Mikey's location, which lends itself to finding authentic carbines - "I still go with the feeling that some Carbines that didn't get back to the States didn't get re-built and that the handguards were a weak point, easily damaged .... so ... you may often find a wrong handguard on an otherwise O.K Carbine." (Mikey51). I tend to look at them like the ones guys find here that have really been through the mill! Also, a 4.9 should not have a Type I band as far as I know, although as we all know, nothing is impossible with carbines. Then you have the hand guard, but it's true that it probably is a field replacement.
I meant to come back and say this before now, but got involved in other things. In any event, not enough is known for anyone except Mikey to make the call.
