(M1 Garand/M14/M1A Rifles)
My dad was a wiry, gangling kid with glasses whom everyone in his Navy training battalion was going to score poorly. He surprised them all by taking the top shooter honors. What they didn't know was that he spent his teens in the mountains of Tennessee shooting squirrels and birds and shot for his school's rifle team. Back then, he'd take his rifle to school and stick it in his locker so he could either shoot for the team or go hunting after school. No-one was worried. It is a different world.

I have it hanging in a case in my den with a "place holder" Garand waiting for the day when I might find the original.

Great Picture, may I make a suggestion. Join the GCA
, The Garand Collectors Association Best $25.00 you will have spent in a long while. They run a full page called "M1
Memories" If they were to select your dads story for print, you could tell your dads story which I am sure the membership would love to hear. The picture would be posted with the story. There are over 15000 Garand collectors that are members of the GCA and just maybe one of them is the poster "guest". Never can tell.
What do you think about this idea Rambouelli ??

+1 ,
As well, I believe in one Journal I thought I read that they were looking for stories from GCA members to consider for this page on their website.

they do post some great shots, like those showing the gas traps when they have a gas trap article..
But for yours, while it's a great photo, I think the story would be the selling point to make the picture pop to get published, but not in the market place.....
I'm sure they have tons of pictures for filler in the magazine, but family stories something else....
For the next step, don't ask for a market place ad,
but as a contribution to the M1
Memories web page....http://www.thegca.org/m1-member-memories

Wow, Steve, that's close! I am sending out a serial number check request to CMP. Maybe I'll get lucky this time!
