I built several C2/L2A1 rifles in 922 compliant semi auto form. The barrel is different. The gas block is used to hang the bipod/handguard on. The rear sight is an 800 meter rotary device. Australian
is tangent. Very difficult parts to find much less purchase. Every thing else is standard L1/C1. The rifles are very stable and accurate. I acquired a number of parts from Marstar...the good old days. Gary

Yes Mr Laidler
, I agree the barrel came as a fixed(for the most part) unit. When I swaged on a gas block it had been removed from an existing unservicable barrel. I'm just curious about the suggestion that the barrel was un threaded. Do you suppose that was missed in production and got parkerized and then was rejected during inspection? That would explain someone getting it from C.A.L. personally.
Arado, I should think if you were to build a single shot rifle (or bolt action I think it would be termed) it would be inherently accurate. We did do semi auto shoots at long range on the rifle team shoots with them...600 yd I think?

On closeout of the CAL plant, the stock, both finished and unfinished were auctioned off by the box and drum load. I have heard stories from plenty of collectors of that era wrt the parts for C1 and C2 rifles, including un-numbered receivers. It is very possible (and even likely) that an unfinished barrel like that described came from the plant during the closeout.

There's an Australian
L2 tangent backsight and cover assembly on 'that' auction site. Seems pretty cheap as at this evening when I saw it

Its probably worth the most if it is not used or modified in anyway. I do not think you will be able to find a C2 gas block for mounting. Once you machine it it is no longer original so it would most likely have less collection value.

I had a C2 built from an Australian
L1 A1. I had a couple of new barrel assemblies, I still have parts for them but not the assemblies.
I knew I didn't have a hope in hell of getting one so I did the next best thing. I think I have a couple of bipods and C1 sights in my parts.
