Unscrew the barrel band screw lose enough to move the band, depress the band spring and slide the band forward. Once you have done this the hand guard will come off and then lift the barrel up, out and forward out of the stock. You can then push the trigger housing pin out and the trigger housing will slide back or forward to remove. That will allow good photos of the hammer strike are on the top of the trigger housing.

Take a close up pic of this area noted on your pic. This pic seems to show a stake mark from a latter type sight being installed

Doesnt this carbine look like some of the ones that have been coming from that seller in Alabama? Seems like there are alot of good carbines coming from alabama and tennesse these days.

Yes it does. There are about 3 sellers that seem to be selling very similar restorations right now. The guy in AL, the on in TN, one somewhere in the north east (id is targettoys) and the original buyer.
The one in TN (dipp) is pretty good with his stuff. I was almost had by him a couple years ago until it was discussed here. Then there is good old george, but we all know his story.

If you paid more than $700 for that rifle, I would send it back. Then I would hit the books, forums and gun shows and try to learn everything you can about these things. Fakery is rampant.

I've got bad news for you, that had a adjustable sight on it at one time and your "new" flip sight is most likely a reproduction. I can't say for sure about the band because I'm not very good on IDing fakes on them.
It has also been refinished at one time. The buttplate also looks new to me. I'm not saying this is now a piece of junk, but it is worth around $750-$1000 instead of $4000. It is still a nice looking carbine.

Thanks for all the information. I will contact the seller about these issues. I bought this gun for the historical aspect and maybe something to shoot every now and then. Does the whole thing look made up from various parts? thanks

Yes it does. He can tell you what he wants, but there are many details on that one that say restoration from parts.
