Front sight…..sideways N or Z
Are there front sights marked with sideways N or is it a Z? The ones I have it look like an N perpendicular to the barrel not a Z parallel with the barrel. If there are sideways N marked sights by which companies and serial number range were they used?
Is QHMC the only company that used Z marked sights?
Along those same lines. Are all NPM NN front sights marked NN side by side (sideways) right behind the blade?
Hope you all have a Happy Holidays.
John

According to Reisch there are both Z and N marked front sights. I believe you would look at it at the same angle as the barrel. Z were used only by Quality HW (again according to Reisch). N were used by Inland, Quality, Irwin Pederson, Saginaw, Nat'l Postal, Std Products, and IBM at various points in production. According to War baby, N was made by Niedner Rifle. Z, I can find no reference as to maker. Maybe someone else has some other data source.
According to Reisch , Z sights used by Quality from serial 1550000 to around 1900000 (along with QJ, unmarked, JQ and N)

The sideways N (aka Z) marked front sights were also used by Inland, NPM, & Standard Products.

Brain,
Just to make sure I understand, an N whether it's perpendicular to the barrel or parallel with the barrel is correct for Inland, NPM, & Standard Products.
Thanks
