When the FN plant was taken over by the Germans, Browning had Remington make their auto 5. This production was 1940-1942 and then resumed after the war from 1945-1948. The collectors now refer to these guns as "American Brownings". I have a 16 gauge made in 1946. They are not marked "Remington" and have serial numbers with a A,B or C prefix depending on the gauge. They are really a model 11 with a magazine cutoff.
