I Finaly got my FIRST M1 carbine ! ! ! !

Here are the pics of my NEW BABY!
Just took her to the range today . . . SWEET. I’m not sure if it is me or not, but looking at the pic# 003 & 015, would you say the front sight is bent to the left and might be a tad low? I ask because I have the rear sight all the way to the left and I am still hitting about 2” to the right @ 50yds. I also have to bring the rear sight back to 300yds notch to hit just above POA @ 50yds.
Any comments are welcome, and thanks in advance. Looking forward to giving her a complete tear down and cleaning. Good chance to photo inventory all the internals.

Is that butt plate rusted and smooth, or is it your pics? Did they make smooth butt plates? ????

Yes it is rusted and smooth, I am sure this is not original and I will replace it as soon as I can.

I believe the Germans/Austrians also used smooth buttplates with their carbines. Some of the German icon

made stocks on the CMP icon

returns also had smooth buttplates.

I have NOT seen ANY sign of import marks! Could it be the stock was replaced from a non-GI carbine? The wood shows NO markings inside or out that I can find.

carbines do not have import marks, as the rifles are returned to the US Army then transfered to the CMP.
And yes that is some type of non usgi buttplate..

It's not unusual for the front sight to look like it is leaning on way or the other. All of mine do. That is one of the reasons that the adjustable sights are nice to have. If it bothers you to have the rear sight adjusted so far you can always try and drift the assembly on the receiver to get it closer to the center. Just be careful if it is staked heavily. As for the height of the front sight, I'm thinking it is too tall. If it is too tall it will shoot low, therefore you have to adjust your rear sight to a higher level to compensate for it. Yours looks like it has never been filed down, so it probably is too tall.
