So, I am a bit further forward, but still none the wiser as to the Mk 1 origins of the rifle!
I wonder if it's possible that you rifle was a originally an early post-war Fazakerley Mk1 that got the modification at a later date?
As to the 'A' suffix rifles...My '43 Fazakerley was FTR'd at Maltby, where it lost the suffix (the s/n is stamped over the original engraved one, sans 'A').

Hello all. I am a little late to the party but I thought I had owned a Faz with the A suffix so I pulled out my book and found it. Serial number was HB20157A. I can't remember the year. It had been sporterized with the barrel shortened so no saving without major money involved. It was a good shooter with a front Parker Hale front sight. It has been residing in PA since 2007.
