Todays shooting went very well. The course was basically 2* 10 round single snap runs on a figure 12 with a 6 inch bull (at 300m). My groups ran around 6 inches and didn't wander between strings. All in all a good result, and I think I won the day for the "Classic" class, which was made up of No4T's and a couple of Lithgow HT's.
Good fun too...

Bit of an epic gone with the wind type story, but well worth the read and very educational. I think a lot of people will take a lot away from this in how to go about fitting and siting in a rifle.
patience is always a virtue that not every one has.
In all a very nice piece and a bench mark of what can be achieved.

Far from finished yet too, but it's shootable, and I'm house sitting at my folks place while they're O.S.
The next phase will be to make the transit chest, and a couple of little wood /metal fiiting details.
I want to hold off on refinishing the metal work, and permanently mating the bracket to rifle in the hope that the correct paint(suncorite ) will avail itself, and that the telescope and bracket with washer give me a couple of hundred or so trouble free shots so I get no further surprises when I fit it by removing metal.
I will begin the chest next week, so I don't let this build get too cold...

Just a nagging thought that popped into my head, The extraction claw on that rifle is it the original? as i have a feeling that the extraction claw for the 7.62 is different being a rimless case. Or am i just reading to much into it.

Dunno if it matters but I am using a .303 extractor on my 7.62 and it works flawlessly.

Got a chance to use the rifle on the full bore range at 700m today, and shot a pretty impressive string of a few bulls. Scope is perfectly collimated with the washer, hopefully will put down a full stage at 800m if time permits next Saturday. Great to let it stretch its legs!

Remounting front pad
After some shooting the front pad came loose, this is one reason I wanted to use it a bit before refinishing, to get any issues that may arise squared away first.
So I got some new screws from a member here, thanks very much, and removed the old screws and pad. The rear most screw sheered off, and in removing it, I snapped two easy outs, but at the end of the day removed the stub without doing any damage to the internal threads (phew!)
I cleaned up the old solder from the base and body, dry fitted it, fluxed it, tinned both surfaces, and screwed it up tight while nice and hot. Cleaned up fine. Confident of a good strong, bond.
Shot the rifle on Saturday and got a good result at 200m.
BTW I'm getting close to phosphating and painting this thing. I've sourced and costed all the chemicals and materials to do the job, but as you can imagine it is an extremely costly affair for one rifle. If anyone here, or that you know of (in Australia) wants a refinish as close to spec as possible please PM me or pass on my details. Will sort out a fair and reasonable rate.
I am a Licenced NSW firearms dealer (No. 410401587).
