Bill: The old grenades were indeed smokers
One of my LURP buddies told me about a booby trap incident that placed a pineapple grenade inside a can with a piece of fishing line attached. Step through the line and it pulls the grenade out of the can, the spoon flies off and 4 seconds later it goes off. This guy immediately knew what it was because the fuse started smoking. Everyone cleared the area except one fellow who just stood there, he was killed by the blast. Funny how people just freeze in an emergency. The guy told me that if it had been an M26 they would have never seen it and lost a bunch of guys. I think that people underestimate what a grenade can do, they are powerful.

My thanks to all of you war vets! My dad flew B-52s but in 68-69 flew single eng recon for out fit called "Litterbug loudmouth". He told me he would fly the mail in sometimes to some of the out bases, just think some of you guys might have met him in passing? Here's a guy who flew around with THEBomb(was first off the ground during missile crissis,2nd seat) and in reality wouldn't hurt a fly. But if flys were attacking the US would not hesitate. He will always be my hero. You all too!!

Forgive me if this personal family history doesn’t fit here, but thought I would throw it out. I just got my first carbine (see my post for pics), and it will be a shooter. I am 99.999% sure the butt plate is not GI, and even if the stock is GI, it could not be confirmed from its appearance. This is a good thing as I want to do some artistic woodworking as a memorial to my Uncle, I was named after. Below are a couple links to information I found about my Uncle; Pfc. Frederick J. North
My Uncle was his assistant gunner:
