Would that belt be the same for the 1879 model, as well? The magazines pictured are 1882/1885 types. Seems reasonable, but I've never seen a Remington Lee belt rig of any sort! (And where did all the spare mags disappear off to???)

I'm sure when they came out with the rifle they had to issue a belt to carry the extra mags and ammo.
Look on pg 30 of Genes Myszkowski's book. It shows a Remington& Sons advertisment that was in a 1885 dated Navy Journal for a M1882 Rem Lee rifle with a belt like the one I have. Ray

You may have to satisfy yourself with just photos as the odds of finding a cartridge belt to fondle is pretty slim. They are many times rarer then the rifles. Besides mine, I've only seen one other belt for sale in the last 10 yrs. Of course that's only my experience, Ray

Thanks for the information and especially the photos. They, I am sure, will be very helpful when I disassemble my model 1879. Mine is navy and serial number 60803. It was my grandfathers rifle passed on down to me. I found your post while searching for informaiton on the Remington-Lee 45-70. Jim

Pliny, S/N 60803 indicates it would be an "1885" model. I can help out there, but not immediately. There may be a few photos done already, I'll have to look.

By any chance, does anyone have or have a link to a 'manual of arms' for the Remington Lee? I'm the owner of an 1899 in 30-40 and are looking for handling instructions.

Haven't seen any manuals in print, but what sort of info do you need? They're fairly straightforward, except for the odd little pivoting plate just below the ejection port. We can do a new thread on that rifle, I just haven't gotten around to doing a giant photo spread on any of the later models. (1882, 1885, or 1899) Too much else going on lately!
