Ross rifle serial number
I have a 1905 Ross that does not have a serial number. Believe me, I have looked and taken the thing apart! The closest I have found is a 719 on the stock.
Could it been issued without a serial number or was it scrubbed when it was made into a sporter? There isn't even a sporter number on the breech.....

In all likelihood the 719 is part of the original serial number. The serial numbering for Ross Rifles consisted of a number over a line, with a year of manufacturer under the line and a letter grouping to the right of it all. eg:
123
----- AB
1909
If you have a look through this forum you'll see all sort of photos showing the complete suite of markings usually found on the right side of Ross buttstocks. Serial number, factory roundel and military history, all in one spot. Post a photo if you can.
