One interesting thing is with the high cost of transportation (within China and on the water to North America) it is going to be easier to compete on many items. I work for a company that sells products from China and with container costs going thru the roof we are now able to purchase some products here in Canada
as cheap if not cheaper than from China. Transportation costs are going thru the roof due to the overpricing of oil (you will NEVER convince me oil is worth what it is selling for now) and those costs are just going to go up.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

I have no problem with Walmart. We did not lose our production jobs to China. Our jobs went to computerized machines. In which China and germany lead the world. Our profiteers buy cheap and sell high. They care only about money.Sounds normal to me. Gary

Bull buscuits. If American factories simply downsized their labor force by going to computerised/automated machinery why do their products have ''Made in China'' boldly displayed on them????

Hate to break your heart but have been to Hong Kong and China buying product and the way money is saved is with cheap labour NOT computerized machines. I have seen it with my own eyes and really know why things are cheaper from China. One day China will become expensive like every country that has a population that demands more in wages, benefits abd standard of living.
China has a major problem right now due to their stupidity in allowing only one child per family. This law is now catching up with them as there are not enough workers and a lack of females to marry and have a child. Give the situation another 10 years and it will be a disaster.
Labor costs are rising in China and will outstrip productivity in a few years. Unions (communist) are now in China and these people want a better standard of living so costs have to rise.
All the factories I bought from were clean, neat and with workers who had very good working conditions otherwise I wouldn't even consider purchasing from them.
Yes computerized machinery is used to make moulds etc but it is hands on labour that make the product you buy. If you think you can make a product with a computerized machine with a cost of 10 cents please reconsider.

I think Walmart saw what the people wanted, so they moved on, nothing wrong with that.
As far as all the other comments about buy "made in USA
" and why so many US job's have left this country, That's easy.....it's the union's, and it's going to stay this way untill these parasite's are gone. JMHO.

Realistically the Chinese don't make submarines or aircraft for America or any of its allies.
Walmart hasn't been in the military business that I know of. Jobs lost in the world to China are in clothing, household smallwares, electronics and the list is endless.
They may make a good car somday but I am not going to hold my breath. The reliable cars in China are things like Buick etc, and saw very few cars like their home grown Cherry... a bit of a piece of junk.

Well unions have been problems all over the world but have done lots of good for lots of people. It was a union that overthrew the gov't in Poland, yes ship builders. Have been to where the UNION started solidarity in Gdansk and give them (union) full credit for the collapse of a commie gov't.
Personally have never worked in a union but have worked in management where they existed and never had a problem, they are far from perfect but without them I do believe big business would have everyone they could working for starvation wages. Without unions in the USA many could not afford your health care system or would not qaulify.
Unions are not all bad just as employers are not all bad.
