Early Smith Ent. receiver??
I visited a local gun shop and the owners have decided to clear out some of their personal guns! One is an M14
he built using a Smith Enterprise receiver #1150. The owner told me it has all USGI parts with a fiberglass stock, all for $1250. This seems like a good price. Anyone know about early Smith receivers?

MJ,
The price seems fair. I recently went to a gun store in Michigan, and used M1A1
type rifles were in that ballpark.
Here is a website discussing the various USGI and commercial clones. There is a brief discussion on the Smith Ent. rifles: http://www.alpharubicon.com/leo/m14typeriflesd.htm

No "forged" markings, but it's must be the next best thing according to others.

I repeat buy it - the receiver alone is worth more than the rifle cost. SE was known for making a fine receiver - they are coveted by m14 enthusiasts. I suggest you look at the m14 firing line forum (m14tfl.com) and do a little searching.

I put some money down on it (this gunshop is so flexible), I should be able to pick it up in a few weeks

Try leeace99@hotmail.com. That was a email contact on his old website. Don't know if it is still good.
