Stock for M1

Just purchased a M1 carbine that had another stock (Boyd) on and the original stock was provided. I like the boyd stock and will leave it on. This stock had chinese or koren writing on it and I was wondering is it of any value as is , or should I sand and refinish it ? Looking for advice.

Usually they have no special value. Any other markings? Like stampings on the side of the stock?

Do not sand. Contact P7. Some of those stocks can be real winners.

I was thinking of what you'd found under the thick paint on some of your stocks when I read deadeye25-06's post.
That one was a hidden treasure!

Are you still restoring/refinishing stocks?

Nice stock Charlie. Still don't know how you get all the paint off without doing permanent damage to the wood. The couple Korean's I have still show small remnants of paint in the wood pores/recesses, if you look close. Actually, one of them is a high wood, I cut RMC like yours.

Heres one that was full of paint & you could not see any marking even in the sling well. Was told by a antquic collector how to remove the paint & the top leyar of deart with out damadge to the original finish. Also found a 4'' crack below the high wood. Hope the pics are there.

If you find a furniture refinishing place, he can strip all the pil and crap out of your wood and return it to you looking like fresh walnut. No sanding done. All marks are present and visible because the dirt is out. I used to get it done for very little cost and there was never any damage. Then just oil and your good.
