Nick Dailey Kudos!

I have gotten USGI parts from Nick in the past and have always had great luck. I picked up a repro Type I sight and barrel band for my Saginaw Barreled receiver project from him, and love them. They fit perfect (including the type I barrel band). THe band is well made, and well welded. It fit the contour of the nose of my mid-war Inland stock perfectly. I paid $23 for sight, band, and Type one safety (which I am not using because I have an original push I got from him about a year ago.). I'll post pics as soon as I get a decent repro Khaki C tip sling on it.

Actually, kudos for selling real parts (which I have bought from him before) at a good price, and selling DECENT repro parts that aren't junk. After all, some of us who are not collectors (myself included) can't afford to spent $300 just to get an original Type I barrel band and Type I sight. Besides, that $300 will buy about 750 rounds of Carbine ammo. I shoot my weapons....

After knowing 4 WWII veterans who have passed in the last 7 weeks, I can't believe I just read this on a Military Surplus Collectors Forum.
I'm sure that some bare foot Chinese kid working in a sweat shop is glad your HAPPY !!
He might even get a promotion and start packing live .30 carbine rounds next !!
Those should be a bargain for you.

I am not trying to knock you in any way. Or say that people should pay outlandish prices for original parts. We all have a budget, and try to enjoy our hobbies and stay within our budgets. Any weapon belongs to it's owner. That owner has the right to do what ever they want with it.

I, and I'm sure others here, understand that people come to these forums for different reasons. Some are collectors. Some may have only one. Others might have gotten a family hand me down and want to know a bit about it. And just someone who likes to shoot and wants a classic military weapon. That is what forums are all about. I think it adds a bit of variety.

You have said in the past, and also in this thread, that you like to shoot your weapons. As we all do.

Someone wrote about it a while back. What is wrong with an arsenal rebuilt Carbine? And I think nothing. The arsenal rebuilds, to upgraded parts, were to make the rifle operate and shoot better. It is still a GI weapon, but now with GI made, upgraded, and approved parts.

You mentioned you were going to take this barreled receiver and make it into a shooter. Then why not use the GI upgrades to do so? They were designed to make it shoot better. But if it is because you like the original look, that is another thing. That is fine too. I am sure most guys like the original look. I know that I do.

What happens when you go to trade or sell the carbine that you put repo parts on? Will you switch them out? If not, then somewhere out there will be a Carbine that sooner or later the next owner will not be told about it. Ok, I know it is only one out of how many Carbines must be around. But it will not be the only one.

They make repo parts to sell and make money. They will keep making them as long as there is a market that buys them. That market is going to put them on carbines. Most of us know what we are looking at, but will the next generation, or the one after that?

I'm just saying lets call things for what they are. A US Military M1 Carbine with Chinese parts on it, rubs me the wrong way.

Back to your thread title. At least some sellers say the part is a repo. But the one you mentioned has been selling slings for a long time now with a deceiving description. Why, to confuse people and make more money at someone else's expense. Now that is something I can not agree with or give Kudos too.

And again, that is just one persons opinion. Maybe I'm way off base with my thinking?

Jim, I understand and respect your point of view. I have my CMP Inland, now with all the upgrades, and that will be my shooter. When I got a good deal on the Saginaw barreled receiver, I decided to make it a mid-war to reside mostly in the shadow box I have with some of my dad's Iwo stuff. (I was going to put the Inland in there at first) That's why I took all the mid-war Inland stuff off the CMP and put it on the Saginaw barreled receiver. As I have said before, my dad did carry a Saginaw for a short time, also. If it is sold after I die, the repop rear sight and a new. single weld Type I barrel band on a USGI with a band shadow on the barrel and stock will fool no one. As for his ??? dealings, I only speak of my experiences. I was unaware of any questionable aspects of his business.

I think the greatest thing about what Nick has sold over the years is the fact that he will, without hesitation and up front, tell you what is real and what is not. A wonderful guy!
