The Earthquake hit Christchurch on the South Island at mid day. Same area hit last Sep. Doesn't look good.
But Mike lives on the North Island.

Received a note from him as well. Said OK. Different Island's but not that far away.
Mentioned the US has already offered help.

I have a very good friend, Al Brass, in Christchurch and no one has heard a thing from him. I'm happy Mike is okay!

Hi guys. Thanks for your concern. Me and mine are O.K. Overall it's not good, thousands homeless and the central business district of Christchurch more or less destroyed. Plenty of food and petrol, but lack of clean water, electricity and waste disposal systems is the main problem. Saddest thing of all, a five story English language school containing young kids, from Japan
, China, Taiwan and the Phillipines collapsed like a pack of cards and then caught fire. No survivors. Big contingents from the States, the U.K, Australia
, Japan, Taiwan, China and a few other places have already arrived to help. C 17s everywhere ! About 120 confirmed dead and about 250 missing so far. This aftershock has caused more damage than the main shake a few months ago as it was right under the city and very shallow. Bill, a lot of telecommunication damage, no power for computers or cell phones, that's probably why you can't contact Al. Mike
