My 03A3 Remington I traded a 45 Colt Rossi for. He had ordered it from the DCM years ago and never shot it.

Very nice and clean! Is that the last 4 on the bolt handle? What is the barrel date? Thanks for sharing!

Yes that is the last four and it is a two grove and 12/43 barrel.

Could be a Greek return. The Greeks are famous for EP'ing the last four of the serial number onto the bolt.

It shoots cast great and jacketed great also, I emailed Remington and was told that it was delivered in February of 1944 and that the barrel was the right date for the rifle. It has been re-arsonaled and didn't appear to have been shot after as there was no rub marks in the mag well and the bolt face had no marks on it (does now). 0 P with various other marks on underside of stock a repair on the hand guard . I was trying to sell the Rossi Puma 45 colt lever action at the gun show and the man who had the 03A3 and I met in the isle, he said that is what I have been looking for to use in CAA. I said lets trade, he thought he had the paper work but never found it. He thought he bought it in the middle '70's but wasn't sure.

Does your stock have the last 4 stamped in it? If so, it is almost certainly a Greek return. Nothing wrong with that, as it looks like this rifle was not refinished by the Greeks. They generally finished their rifles in a very black-like parkerization. If you say that this rifle does not appear to have been used since the refinish, then it is possible that it was rearseneled in the U.S., then loaned to Greece, then returned back to the U.S. and sold by the CMP. However, the CMP only sold Greek return 03s in the past 7 years or so. If my theory is correct, that rules out your seller purchasing it from the DCM (CMP) in the 70s.

Take my ramblings with a grain of salt, as I am far from an expert. But, I did purchase a Greek return 03A3 from the CMP a few years back and I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

Well I'll say it... YOU should be ashamed of yourself for stealing that rifle from that guy! Trade a Rossi for that! I'd say you made out the better on that deal by about $200-$300!

The last four numbers on the stock do not match and it was bought from the DCM in the '70's. He made the deal I just went along, the only problem is that I have been threatened with death if I trade it off by my sons.I told them that I was going to live so long that I would push them around in wheel chairs, so the guns would be shot with all three of us in motorized chairs.
