Frank, its walnut. Found a Min-wax called "gunstock"....very reddish; mixed it with a bit of other stuff and finally got a decent look on the wood. Gonna go with that as the BLO
will darken it some.

gunsdora, I get my pins from Brownells. They should be able to ship to Canada
. They have two sizes and sell them with the pilot drill bits. If you are going to be using them, I would recomend getting both sizes.
ulflyer, I have used "gunstock" before, glad it worked for you. I'm in Chappel Hill this weekend. Are you going to be at the Capitol City show this weekend?
I'm going to try and make it if I can break away on Sat.....Frank

Buy the size brass rods you want from your local hardware.
Pick up a couple of threading dies and make your own.
A screw gun makes threading it a quick job.
Nicer yet if you have a drill press, clamps or home made jigs to pre drill your pilot holes.

Charlie, that's great. I never thought of it but it sure would give alot more size opptions. What length do you thread? The drill press or jigs will be a big asset also.
I'm going to do that on my next job. Thanks.....Frank
Gunsdora, after you cut off the threaded pin save the cut off to use again. I can get two or three uses out of one pin. Good luck and post some pics of your work for us.
