I recall reading an article years ago about them. The Germans sent in a very large garrison and kept them in-country until May 1945. Most of the troops got there fairly early in the war, so most of the K98's will show early dates. Something like 300,00 troops and something like over 200,00 converted into .30-'06. Also many rifles broken into parts kits. They were recalled many years back and were in reserve status, all greased up. All destroyed under the SALT Agreements. Not many left, I'm afraid. Rail Road security had G33/40's all converted into .30-'06. Also understand the Norwegian Navy kept their K98's in 8mm. Must still be some over there, but nothing like 200,000. Not anymore.
