Enfield no.5 is half cocking upon shooting
I have a Lee Enfield no.5 and sometimes(not all the time) when I'm shooting, I pull the trigger and the bolt goes into half cock. I have to re-cock the gun to shoot it. WHat is causing this half-cock so the gun doesn't fire. Thanks for any information.

I think you may have to replace your cocking piece. The front face has probably been messed with. Also I once had a trigger that someone had tried to make a one stage out of. They had removed the small bump on the upper part. This made it unpredictable. At least a couple of things you can try.

Jim,
After reading your reply, I pulled the bolt on my no.5 and I found a nasty burr along the side of the cocking piece. I took a file to smooth it off. Then applied some light grease. On the next outing I will see if i have the same
trouble. You may have found the answer though with the cocking piece. I can get another if it comes to that. Thank you . I will hope to update my findings.

Jim, this malady has been covered in some depth on the Lee Enfield Forum. You'll definately find the answer there
