The windage arm looks a lot longer than on any of the 4/47s I have (about 15x). Do the two halves of the sight have matching assembly numbers? (the number "309" on the base is not the original location for the number - it should be on the inside). I suspect your sight has a windage arm off one of the AJP sights designed for the Mauser action - these are more offset than the No4 items.

I have had a quick look at my Parker Hale PH-5C as a comparison.
It fits nicely on my 1955 No4 mk2.
The windage arm is 46.5mm in total length(excluding the adjustment knob)
Its current "Zero" is set approx 15mm from the LH outside of the reciever, which is approx 26mm along the windage arm.

I have in front of me at this moment two AJP sights: a TZ 4/47 (for a No. 4) and a TZ 3/49 (for a P14) The width of the cross arm looks similar to the arm on my TZ 3/49, and makes me think it was off a TZ 3/53 (for a P14/M1917).

Not on my example. The number is in the same size and style as on the cross-arm, just above and in front of the rear hole. Take a look to see if there is any trace of a scrubbed number!
If so, then you have a "force-matched" backsight!

Just refitted one identical to yours but ser number 420. Numbered on top left side of elevating arm and rear too. Overhang of slide identical to yours too. Ah, just looked carefully and the elevating and rear numbers are JUST visible on yours too.
Just re-checked and the rifle number is PF 317095.......... 60 or so difference too

Thanks for the replies.
The sight is also marked as Peter says, but it is marked on the slide and vernier in a neat smaller etch mark, whereas on the body side it has been done with a hammer and punch, so it is possible it is a bitsa.
Best thing I can do is take it for its virgin shoot and see how it goes. I note the foresight blade is set way to one side, I think I might set it up in a rest in the garden and bore sight it approximately before I set off for the range!
