Saw my first M1Carbines in '50s war movies and TV shows with actual footage from the PTO, and always wanted one. Who can forget the Marine standing up and shooting his Carbine up into a tree to get a sniper? Fast forward to 1991 when I started getting interested in owning guns - the M1 Carbine was one of the first ones I got. The Carbine that stayed fixed in my mind's eye has the 'pot belly' stock, so when I saw my first Browning .22 autoloader with a similar swell under the fore arm, I instantly liked it because it evoked the M1 Carbine. Strangely, my Carbine has the Type III 'straight' stock and although I have bought the late stock more than once, I always got rid of them and kept the original.
