Gas Cylinder Threads
Have some mildly buggered threads on my gas cylinder and gas screw. Screw will tighten up, but there is some resistance when turning. Wondering if I can save the expense of buying a tap & die by running a new gas screw with clean threads into the GC a few times. Is the gas screw metal harder than the gas cylinder metal?

I would go with the tap myself and I DO have a modicum of experience with gas cylinders.
The required tap is a 9/16x32 preferably a 4 flute BOTTOM TAP.
A lot of recoated(potassium dichromate) gas cylinders wind up with excess coating material in the threads and if you don't CLEAN them out with either a M1 or M14
chamber cleaning brush or even a .45 Cal phosphor bronze bore brush on a cleaning rod you could conceivably wind up cross threading the gas cylinder lock screw which is a ROYAL pain in the gluteus maximus.
I hope this will help you with your decision making.
