crate 303 ammo spam cans

Any idea where these cans were made? I can't find any information. Can has C.B. 4 10 50

If we could see the labels properly we'd know straight away without hazzarding a guess. But if it is GB and not CB, then that's Greenwood and Batley and it'll be UK made.

I have a can of that type, but it contains 250 belted rounds of Mark VIIIz, according to the factory label.

Wonder how the stuff is packed inside? I have only seen Mark VII in 32-round and 48-round boxes, the 48s packed 26 to the case.

A good clear shot of the labels would really help, as Capt. Laidler has already said.

Judging by the number of rounds 2 X 300 round cans, it will be six bandoleers to the can.

That's another piece of information that will be on the labels. :-)

Thanks for that, Beerhunter. There was some Greenwood & Batley 1950 in bandoleers on the market here about 15 years ago, so now I know how it was packed.

It's just as we all suspected. Bog standard G&B .303" Mk7 ball. I'd spray a bit of oil onto the vacuum sealed black tinplate liners if you aren't going to use it soon as they perforate around the rusting fluxed seams after a few years.

There were boxes identical to that imported to Aus awhile back. This one was RG- Radway Green, 1950. The labeling in the pic is the same as yours except for the factory stamp. 600 rounds in chargers and bandoliers, two tins of three hundred each. I used most of it up. Then I sold some of the cloth bandoliers on e pay with chargers- sort of a "kit" and ended up making back what the unopened crate had cost me a couple of years before!
I donated about 500 fired cases to the Australian War Memorial for scattering around a Vickers gun set up on display. They'd had a dozen or so Winchester commercial unprimed cases with it- looked a bit silly, if you were paying attention to detail...
still got two bandoliers full, the box and tins....
