No. 8 Mk 2 Scope Cases
For those out there with the canvas Mk 2 scope cases. Does any have one that has been renumbered? If so, can they post pic's or describe how it was done. I have come across an example that has the old number painted out in black with the new number over painted in white. I do not know if is authentic or a garage special.
Many thanks!!

That's just what we'd do. But if it was me doing it, I'd have overpainted it in matt khaki vehicle paint and re-stencilled the new number on the top. I did it many many times with the rifle covers but not with a Mk2 scope case

Don't read this unless you have a sense of humour..................
On the same lines....... Our L4Bren spare parts wallets were usually all just converted original .303" Bren spare parts wallets with the addition of a set of pockets to take the 4 piece rifle cleaning rod. During the annual inspection of small arms, one of the inspection team would get a bee in his bonnet about the old designation being on the wallet when, according to the book, the NEW designation should be shown.
I know what you're going to say, but telling him to get off his fat axxx, put his cup of coffee down, get out a bit more and open the xxxxing thing up would show that the wallet was indeed the CORRECT one but alas, the world wasn't going to come crashing down because it still showed the old original 1940's designation.
So we'd paint out the old designation with khaki paint from the paint shop and stencil over it the NEW designation...........................
Do you remember these xxxxing useless jobs-worths Tankie, Son and Skippy? I told myself that when I was Commissioned and a report came across my desk whining about some trivia like this, I'd invite the xxxxing idiot to come and see me and ask him to consider whether a nice soul destroying trip to Bosnia, living in what we called 'the shoe factory' ( a bombed out hovel........) might appreciate how the 'back end' of the Armourers were coping....................

I can tell you from personal experience that the British
Army doesn't have the market cornered on that kind of nonsense. I saw it many times too in US Army. Most of our weapons were very tired Vietnam and earlier vintage, (I won't even talk about the 1911A1 pistols and 81mm mortars). It was a job just keeping the weapons up and running let alone doing the other little jobs as mentioned above. It's a universal Army thing I reckon and I doubt it'll ever change.
