Thanks Mike.
I took some pictures of some that I have. The stock on my SC Rifle does have a round cut and an E in the barrel channel. It is a CMP
rifle that was arsenal overhauled at some point. It has a boxed RIA/EB on the butt, so I can't say it is original to that rifle. It has stock pins rather than bolts. It is serial # 4,734,xxx.
The spare stock that I have also has the round cut and an E in the channel. It also has stock pins.
The O3A4 has a C stock with an S in the cutoff groove, square band spring cut, and a BA/JPL stamped over a faint, boxed FJA. Guess this rifle was built at Benicia Arsenal.
The NIB stock has a square band cut and only a W in the receiver area and barrel channel. Obviously it would have no inspector stamps.
I have more pictures in the link if anyone is interested.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but does this cartouches look bogus to someone else?
It looks too new. I hope the pic is ok, I do not have better pics (rifle is being auctioned on a site). I am contemplating purchasing this rifle, but am concerned about the cartouches.
Disclaimer: I am not very knowledgable about these, so sorry if this is stupid/in-correct

This is my take:
1. The parkerized bolt indicates the rifle was rebuilt at some point. Rebuilt rifles had refinished/replaced stocks but the marking were just sanded off (in many cases). Factory markings were never reapplied by a US rebuild facility.
2. I suspect you are right tthe markings were added more recently. Check the stock for subinspectors marks on the underside just forward of the magazine box. Also check the side of the buttstock for a rebuild depot mark.
regards,
Jim
