Not too long ago I got a reamed for H barrel, rear sight base from "The Gunsmiths" at Sefton, NSW for $20, I'm pretty sure they've got a pile of them, you should give them a call or email, they've got a good web site too Gunshop - New and Used Guns , Pistols and Rifles for sale, Custom Gunsmithing , Firearms and Accessory , Dealer for over 30 years - Sydney NSW Australia could be that easy!

Thanks Tbone, I'll check them out.. it will be great if I can just get hold of one that easily.
I might also ask about the wood you mentioned earlier.

So I have spent some time cleaning it and although the bore looked pretty good, after a clean it's bright and shiny. I am pretty happy about that. The brown in the pic is the fence out at the back of the deck.


What it did have is a brass barrel band. I gave it a clean and then replaced it with a new steel one.



It will be dreadful bitsa but the aim is to have it as a shooter in good condition. I might investigate one of those no drill scope mounts later ... somewhere around here someone mentioned two brands that were actually worth the money.

I have a question about the ring that goes around the barrel that a screw goes into from the bottom of the stock, about half way. Do the HB have them? The regular item won't fit which is hardly a surprise.
Knowing that bedding the barrel is such an important thing I want to get this right, preferably first time around.

Did it have a little "T" stamped into the side of it? I believe the Lithgow ones were marked "T" for Target.

I'd question whether the T is reference to the heavy barrel.

My 1916 Lithgow ShtLe No.1MKIII with heavy barrel has the "inner band"
