    I did not see any Bavarian marks either. I again wish to thank you all for the kind and informative replies. I decided to leave the stock on this carbine and fortunately I was able to cancel the order with CMPicon.

    If it turns out tooooo nice, you can always buy a decent birch potbelly stock for shooting. Cost you maybe $40-50.

    Go over to surplusrifle.com and look at the work of candyman on the Stock Care page. He does amazing repair work (which you don't need) and does an equally amazing job describing his work with narrative and photos. Of course he refinishes what he repairs and that part will help you understand your choices. Plenty of good 'how to' on his many posts. It's really pretty easy. Good luck.
