My Mk I***

I picked this up on Auction Arms not long ago and picked it up yesterday. Some ya-hoo tried to make a sporter out of it, sadly, but it's restoreable. My one question concerns the barrel. It's not marked "HV" for the high velocity round. Or, did that simply mean the sights were changed? Otherwise, I plan to have fun! I've got a set of hand guards and sliding charger on the way and a line on a new forestock. Of course, your comments welcomed. Forgot to mention, it's marked "Sparkbrook, 1905."

What a shame it's been dinked with! Are the front sight mounts intact? Has te bbl been shortened? The rear sight isn't too tough to find - they show up on the bay or gunbroker from time to time. Repro wood is also out there if you look...

I agree with you on that point. The barrel hasn't been shortened, just sights removed. It looks like another sight was mounted at one time. The issue sight and handguards should cover that. But, not being able to tell if the barrel had been shortened, I happened to find a barreled action with sights on Gun Broker and won it.

wrt the holes drilled into the barrel, you could always fill the holes with screws, mig weld over those plugs, file down, and re-blue the barrel. Depends how far you want to take things.

My plans are to lightly counter sink the holes and fill them with screws and dress them down then reblue.
