QUESTION REGARDING BARREL DATE vs DATE ACCORDING TO SERIAL NUMBER GARAND
Hello,
I was looking at a Garand
today. The serial number was 30,64XXX. According to Duff's book the manufact. date is July 1944. The barrel however was dated 9-44 (September). Is it an issue for a barrel to be dated 2 months AFTER the receiver? I have heard of barrels being dated 2 months BEFORE the receiver. The gun looked legit however to me. In fact in comparing the numbers in Duff's book, the other parts were substantially correct.
Any help would be appreciated.

I must correct my post. I misread the receiver manufacture date. It is actually Aug 44. The barrel is a Sept barrel (1 month later). My question is still: I a barrel one month NEWER than the receiver considered correct?

Guns were not assembled in serial number order, and there was a very large range of numbered receivers in process at any one time. The assembler just grabbed the first one that came to hand. Serial tables are just rough approximations of the range of numbers being used at any one time, certainly not specific boundaries. Your gun is fine.

Don't forget , Aug to Sep could be as short as one DAY apart.
