My first wartime Garand……..2/44 Springfield
I’ve been increasingly fascinated with owning a correct/restored wartime Garand
and finally pulled the trigger on a gunbroker deal a couple weeks ago. It came in recently, and near as I can tell is entirely correct except for maybe the hammer spring plunger w/o wings (may or may not really mean anything as I think they started using these in march of ’44). I need a good period sling to go with it, but otherwise I wouldn’t change a thing.
Wish I could know something about its history. Which theatre did it go to, who carried it, etc.

That's the same as the rest of us, but I guess we'll really never know for sure. We would sure like to see more pics of this one, looks good from here though.

Did I see that right? An uncut op rod? Nice George Woody stamp. The dings don't matter. Even the big ones at the toe and the belly. They could be sorted out but that sort of thing can show. I would leave them alone. White chamber and you say the barrel's good? Everything looks like a good deal.

Yep.....surprisingly good 2-44 barrel, and an uncut -9 curved side op rod
