Knowing how the procurent system works (or doesn't work, depending on your view.....) then if there was an official requirement for something like this then there would b a paper trail in the Ordnance Directives - and there ain't!
If it was tried and /or tested by the UK Military, it'd have been done at Hythe and be logged somewhere - but it ain't
If it was something suggested by a private company or individual and considered suitable for submission to the Ordnance Boad, then that'd be mentioned in the relevant Ordnance Board procedures - and there ain't.
I suppose it could have been some other nation asked Savage to look into a conversion programme, but British
or British contact, it ain't

Savage records were destroyed in a post WWII flood.
