That's what I like about this site, the scarce, rare, odd, never get a chance to see stuff that just appears!

There were six Hyde Light Rifles made counting the original. When the original made by Mr. Hyde and Bendix Aviation was approved for futher testing with a few suggested updates, five more were requested by the military and these were made by Inland and they did not look like the original in a few different ways. Of the five submitted for testing, only number three was tested and it did not perform near as well in testing as did the original which had been tested before in the first round of trials. I think the building of the Hyde rifle did give Inland a leg up in getting contracts to build the winning design which was by Winchester. Most of what information is available is in War Baby.

That carbine is an incredible artifact. So at this point we know of two existing - what a footnote to the development of the 'Light Rifle'.

Welcome to the Carbine Forum jmazz and Diane. You each have an extremely rare and valuable piece of M1 Carbine history!
Thanks for sharing the photos with our forum jmazz and I'm sure anyone and everyone will provide any assistance they are able.
Diane, if you can share any photos we'd sure appreciate them as well.
I attached the photos jmazz provided to this post to make it easier for members to view and access the photos he provided.
Below are links to illustrated tutorials for our two different means of posting photos -
How do I upload pictures to my posts for storage on milsurps.com?
How do I show pics from Photobucket, Flickr, ImageShack etc. on milsurps.com?
Some of the most knowledgeable and helpful carbine experts anywhere frequent this forum and many are members of the Carbine Club.
The Carbine Club has more documentation and they do more ongoing research on carbines than anyone, and you should each consider joining the club or at least become familiar with it if you haven't already. I'm certain the club would be extremely interested in your carbines and will share any info they may have. You can find more info about the Carbine Club here -

Please inform us if you find more information as well.
Thank you,
