Fulton type No1 MkIII BSA commercial Target Rifle - What do I look for?
Recently got a nice Fulton type No1 MkIII BSA commercial with 5a sight in lovely condition, hardly used.
Is there a way of dating it?.
It had a new pullthrough and a very green oil bottle neatly stashed in the Butt which look like they have been there since it came out of the shop. Do I oil the pull through cord to try and preserve it or leave it dry and the oil bottle green?. It's almost a shame to disturb them!.

Well done on the nice rifle, you have to send pics here, I've had two of them. now just one. There's pictures of them on enfield resource.com/target rifle.
Except in general terms there seems no way to date these rifles, Fulton's still exist but report that they haven't kept a history of serial number or anything like that. Does yours have the strap over the fore end and springs inside pressing on the barrel?
Pics please.
Also I'll PM you about this, I'm a big fan of these rifles.

Mine has the same flattened muzzle. Why are they flattened and not crowned?.

Perhaps that was the best muzzle crown style at the time for accuracy?
My BSA Heavy Barrel is the same as well.

Mine too, but FYI, the darn thing has a dent right on the inner edge, it looks nice but turns out to be vulnerable. Now I'm hunting all over for one of those parker hale front sight protectors with the flap for the muzzle cover.

Is the big Sylvia Park Ordnance Depot still in Auckland RJW. Probably long gone now or even a big housing estate!

Just took some pics and blimey, 12 megapixels with flash and it doesn't look quite so good!. Shows rust where there is none.
I really must take off my rose tinted specs and put on my x10 ones next time I look at an Enfield.
I'll try again when the sun comes out.
