Reproduction Telescope Bracket
I recently purchased a No4 MkI T Less Telescope and the seller shipped a Telescope Bracket with the rifle. I am assuming it is a reproduction, but I was wondering who made it.

Might this be one that SARCO was selling a few years back? Don't know who made it.

Looks like a Sarco, slightly better finished than the Numerich ones. I was told the Sarco ones were made in India for them. Don't quote me.

If you want to make that repo look original get yourself one of those small die grinders with a 3" disk and mount up a real course #36 grit disk then give it to your 10 year old and tell him to run it all over the mount at least twice.

It's certainly not one of mine. Mine look rougher in the finish than this one, but they are sand castings as per the originals. In the bracket shown in the picture the prominent sloping 'shelf' below the rear cradle area is typical of the Indian/Far Eastern copies being sold in recent years. This feature is similar to but not exactly the same as on Canadian brackets & I've seen these copies at European shows dogged up as the Canadian real-deal. At least one (complete with a spurious Long Branch serial number) has made it across the Channel; I noticed one with a real No32 Mk1 in it at Beltring last week.

There appears to be at least three or four different manufacturers of the brackets going by the samples I have accumulated. The mold markings are quite different as is the degree of finish. Also, the thumb screws show different patterns of knurling and the tension washers on some are not much more than curled wire. Roger's brackets along with the originals are the benchmark. Many of the repro offshore brackets as well as some made in the USA need some work and "tarting up" to function.

Think I seen that one myself, was he selling the pads for 32 pounds a pair ?

There was a number of repro 32 scopes at Beltring, running from not bad in prices to just f**king stupid. Most of the 32 scopes for sale at Beltring were still there on Sunday......whether a sign of the times (no money) or they have hit the top of their price range. There will always be the insanity of the auction sale, but I was told a long time ago that the actual price of anything is the second highest bid at an auction

Sage words Warren. Big Duke, the No32 Mk1 in the 'Canadianised' repro bracket was on the stall of a dealer based in Brum, called Sal. The scope had been linished of all markings, strangely enough, & had also had a full refurb recently. It was optically fine & had obviously been re-suncorited. However, the bracket was as wrong as a bottle of crisps & I told him so. Not sure how much he wanted for it.....I don't need one, certainly not if it's going to cost me anything like the going rate! I've still got a load of ex-Indian issue ones to get rebuilt...saving it for when I retire, ha! ha!
Warren; haven't forgotten yours. Will attend to....! Very pleased with the Jefferies!

Addendum: No criticism of Sal intended...we've dealt before & I've found him to be ok. He accepted my comments in good part. (Re-read my posting & did not wish anyone to think I was having a go at him. I think he was acting in good faith).

I've heard that saying about the second highest bid before Warren, and wondered about it. I asked my friend here in the village, an auctioneer at Bonhams. It's obvious really............. At the SECOND highest price TWO people want it so that's the real price. The HIGHEST price is the artificial price because only the RICH bloke can get it!
Have a great weekend
