Could be Combat Engineers, Black troops were still mostly used in support operations at that time.
Real men measure once and cut.

So true. There's better news these days. I was at the Norfolk Military Tattoo this spring, where their guest of honor was one of the Tuskegee Airmen. He received a long standing ovation from a crowd of about 10,000. By the way, next winter, "Red Tails," the theatrical movie story of the Tuskegee guys will hit the theaters. It looks to be pretty historical.

There was a pretty good documentary on the first black Marines aired on my local PBS station last night. Very interesting.
