Did anyone notice the extra screw on the bottom of the scope between tube flanges? Looks like an extra desiccant screw?? Looks like the s/n of the scope is 17177.

That might be an extra desiccation screw but it won't desiccate anything while it's seated on a round surface. It also looks as though there has been a flat filed across the front collar. THis is usually to clear a commercial mount. I wouldn't mind betting - and I could be wrong - that this is a Mk3 that's been used on an air rifle, screwed onto a commercial mount and later converted to L1A1

Reproduction scope bracket as well. Looks like "EFD" stamped on the reverse with a British
broad arrow. Caps not stamped. No serial number on the face of the bracket.

One thing I have learnt in the past is never jump in feet first unless your 100% sure, I lost a great deal of cash many moons ago regarding some medals etc, but back then we didnt have forums like this, with experts and eagle eyed members that we have here, Lance has pointed out the extra screw and along with Peters comments, I would give this a wide berth.
Hooks scope looked like a good honest deal to me (apart from the sale part) , as it was all there, which interested me, and the price is only going to go up.
I would of used this as a trade etc in the future, as I may become the owner of a L42, but its the rifle only, and I know the transit chest with all the other items is out there, but dont know if its been split or a rifle may of been put in place of the original.
Regarding the rifle if it does come my way I,ll be more than happy to put some pics etc and the info with it on the forum as I know the full history behind it, Its possible that there is someone out there who may have a L42 with chest etc but the rifle itself is erm... not quite correct.
