Good info to know. I was told all the ribbed slings are post WWII. I have seen a photo of a dark OD green ribbed clasp sling that had a narrow buckle.

How's this? Ribbed? Can you show me ribbed and...not? Or whatever the comparison is? Or are you guys talking about the sliders? That part I understand. Is there a difference in the weave of the canvas?
    Regards, Jim

The "ribbed" slider was put into production some time in 1945. Although most folks believe the ribbed slider is ONLY post-war, that belief is inaccurate. The remainder of the 1945 sling is typical of other WWII production: lighter OD color, tighter weave, square buckle, blued tip, etc. The ribbed slider was put on the sling before the tip was crimped in place. That big round crimp on the tip will NOT allow the slider to be removed. My only remaining example was made by S.M. Co. dated 1945 (of course). Sorry, no photo available.

It will , but you have to work at it. Just think , if the tip can't pass through , how can you mount the sling on the rifle ?
