Agree that using black powder in my `71 Mauser carbine is much the wisest choice. I `phoned the Germanicon proofing house in Ulm and was told that they could proof it ... but the only proofing cartridges in stock for the `71 were CIP Nitro! Apparently I don´t have to have the `71 proofed. But would like to have it done.

In the mean time, I´ve now managed to get hold of a Werder cavalry carbine. Intend to size the cases out of `71s that seem to be freely available. Shall have to take a black powder re-loading course first to get a permit.
