P07 bayonet ID
You guys may or may not remember, but I posted a while back about a bayonet I got off E-Gay that was supposed to be a P07, but ended up being a Mauser variant blade. The seller was good, he accepted the return and I got my money back.
Fast forward a few months, and I picked up this P07 at a gun show. No scabbard, but it was the right price at the right time, so I jumped on it. It is indeed a P07 this time, lol! When I got it, it had a good slathering of grey paint on the base of the blade and some on the grips. The paint filled in the stampings on the blade, so I removed it. (I'm not sure if this was a good idea or not, but I wanted to see the markings) It has a few EFD stamps, with varying letters/numbers. The other side has 1907 and 5 and '14 with EFD underneath. The pommel has 27 HBY, with RA underneath, and 94 underneath that. Is there anything you guys can tell me about it by the markings? If you need better pics, I can try again. My camera's macro isn't the most reliable thing in the world.

Cant find the 27th, is it 2.7 ? (This relates to the Battery)
H B Y = Heavy Battery (yarmouth) (could be wrong on the yarmouth) (I could be wrong about the H B)
RA = Royal Artillery
94 = Weapon Number
Looking at the numbers it looks like the 2 may been added later as the other letter and number strikes give a raised area around them giving a shinny appearance.
In most cases Royal Artillery was marked RGA (Royal Garrison Artillary) but I know Heavy batteries were under the RGA, so possible the G was dropped.
Thing with the RA it was expanded so much in the early years of WW1, and would guess it was marked in 1917 when re issued.

Cool, thank you! It might be 2.7, it's kinda hard to tell. It almost looks like the "7" was stamped over another number. Is it safe to assume it was made in 1914 going off of the '14 on the other side? Or does that mean something else?

Yes the 5/14 would be 1914. You knew EFD was Enfield, right? I think there were five or six makers.

Yeah, I looked up EFD and found it to be Enfield. Interesting bit about being a former hooked quillion bayonet, I didn't know that. Is there any significance to the grey paint I removed from it? I found it odd that it was there, it was applied about an inch or so above the guard and was masked. Meaning, it was a perfectly straight line where the paint stopped above the markings. Some paint ran down the handle, and it still has a run I haven't been able to remove for fear of damaging the wood.
Thank you for your replies, this place is always a great source of info!

I've seen weapons and accessories painted some very strange colours that meant nothing. The hooks were only removed in about 1913 so any made up to and even a bit past that would have had them. Once the order goes out it takes a bit for units to react to it. I had a 1907 that had undergone several changes. Early date so hooked quillion and that was removed. Re inspected for WW2. Shortened after some time for Owen SMG and re proofed.
