Yes, I often stop by and see what my friend is working on and was obviously too late, to as I've learned, save this one. I have told him that in doubt call me and I'll do some research first. He spent his whole life refinishing all manner of things and now that he is retired just does it as a hobby, you know something to do.

I have tried looking for the handles for it and my searches may not be worded correctly. Also if you know a dealer that sells them don't be shy, as Kramer on Sienfeld once said "why don't you just tell me the movie you want to see?"

Yes, many battlefield picked up items have been destroyed over the years but the fellow shows a lot of effort in his attempts to restore it so I am glad that he at least managed to salvage it rather than having it pitched in the garbage, he is to be applauded for that and I do appreciate the amount of labor he has put into it so I don't want to sound as if I am sneering at him. He didn't know and many others would not appreciate it for what it was and feel that people who collect rusty items are simply "not all there" if you know what I mean. If something like this turns up again, he will know that it can be saved as is. Who knows? He may be able to find out the story of how it was found and salvaged.

Good point...I will inquire about the history. He has stopped working on it for now,as he has lost alot of strength due to radiation treatments. I told him I would love to spend some time on it for him (removing the rust, you know the long tedious stuff) and boy did that hour go by fast.
I had forgotten that my wife needed her car to go to work. I'll be back on it as soon as I find more time. Any more help locating handles would be great. Did you mean turkish cut down bayonet and take the handles off it?

Yes, find a "Turked" or shortened Sg98/05 bayonet and use those grips. But do keep in mind, as I said above, that they will likely need "adjustment" to fit. Also, many of the Turkishicon used Sg98/05, especially those that were shortened in Turkish use (the only ones you should consider destroying) are almost always very worn and the slashes will no longer be present.

Sorry to hear that your friend is sick, hopefully the radiation treatments are being of some help. And good of you to offer him some help on the project, I know that a good friend is always a comfort when in hard times. Good on ya.
