Time to get the model 99 out and give it some exercise
Been searching for ammo and it appears that there is nothing left to buy except the big name makers at big time prices.
Is there any hope ...............to get some at reasonable prices.
I may have to reload to do it within a reasonable price

I thought I read somewhere that you could use 30-06 brass to make into 7.7 Jap, is this correct?

Yea, I have found numerous places that sell it for 22.00 and up to 37.99 a box.
But I am a tightwad of sorts, and old school as well. I thought I could find it for 13.99/15.99 a box, maybe privi or something like that.
Perhaps I will just reload it and use .303 bullets or maybe even lead cast.

if you get a full length 7.7x58 jap die you can size 30-06 to 7.7 you will just have trim as with any other conversion

Thanks YOYO, I will try that. I have tons of 06, can certainly sacrifice a few for the Type 99

you may want to anneal to avoid loosing any cases

Annealing the case necks is definitely a good idea. Have seen quite a few 30-06 cases split after only one loading. Ended up pitching most of one batch out, but they were done on old "RIO" brand brass, which may not have been well annealed even in the original caliber.

Just to give you an update.........I bought some Hornady ammo so I could go to the gun club, and get some brass as well.
Bought Hornady 150 gr SP their parft # 80490
When I got home, noticed something perculiar. The muzzle had some gray coating on it. Any of you from the 60's remember when your tail pipe would turn gray after a good run [with leaded gas]? That's what it looked like. Anyway, when I went to clean the bore, the patches came out almost completely clean, no dirt, carbon or soot at all. It took me about 2 minutes to clean the bore. And of course the gray wiped right off. that is about the cleanest shooting ammo I have ever run across. And it was accurate, very accurate but I suppose some of that was with the help of the rifle.
Anyway had a good morning, and very happy with the ammo. Just thought you would want to know.
