Hi paulseamus, I have a couple of these mounts and some extra bases, It looks like to me that your base has been made to fit a Mauser action, I was told by a gunsmith that the mounts and bases could at the time be bought seperately, so if you can find the correct base, you will be in business! A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... Frankonia in Germanyicon was still advertising a very similar mount to this, and listed as being available for the SMLE all through the 1990's. I just wish I'd kept a few of their old catalogues.
I bought my first Lee Enfield from their Hannover shop in 1996.

    Gentlemen

Thank you for all of your posts.

Steve of NY correctly identified that the mount will not fit an SMLE.

I have now had the opportunity to try it on several rifles.

Whilst it will not fit any Lee Enfields it does neatly fit the receiver of my Enfield P14.

The mount is of the correct length and machined to the correct contour for a P14/M17 receiver.

    Mystery solved.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Paul

    Mounts

Does Anyone have a line or contacts for these mounts, in Australiaicon? I have a 303-25 with similarly spaced tapped holes in the receiver, and would like to cover them up and put a scope on at the same time...

    Thanks!

    Mark

Alan at Kingaroy Firearms should be able to help you out with a scope mount. Probably needs a trip up there to sort through everything on a quiet day though.
