3 shot group after break in,,,
at the end of one of the replica A4,s im building, using a non drill rifle receiver, that was at one time sporterized, i matchfaced barrel and reciver, new 2 groove, used a match grade finish reamer.
burris base, weaver 2 .5 power scope, scant grip stock, that had fitting issues, and cracked first time i shot it, releived the stressed area, and that cured the issue.
after a couple boxes of Greek ball, and a cleaning, i shot this 3 shot group with 72 dated white box match, at 100 yards, no wind, good , not great bench, and old eyeballs.

Nice to see what can be done with careful, correct assembly! I was just reading in Campbell's 2003 edition about the correct way an '03 stock should be bedded in for best accuracy.
And very nice shooting, old eyes or not! CC

Chuck! Great post. I think your results and that of others recently points out that the 03-A3 or 03-A4 were every bit as good as there foreign contemporaries. i think both rifles suffered from some bad press and bias from gun writers and other "experts" who were hung up on the fact the finish on the WW2 rifles was not as nice as that of the old 03's.

jim

Makes you wonder what it would do with some careful hand loads.

And here I was expecting a picture of a masked burglar crumpled on the floor next to a broken window with a crowbar in one hand , flashlight in the other , and three slowly enlarging red circles in his chest , close together , of course.

here she is,
a few things gave the A4 a bad rep, the POS 330 Weaver scope was just crap, not a combat or target scope, just a bad choice accepted by the lowest bidder,
so many other good scope were available at the time,
iv gotten same sort of groups from stock original A3,s that had good scopes attached, but most group 2 to 3 inches, at best, match reamer, match facing, and a good stock fit, will change everything, she shot 2 inch groups with the Greek ball, and would stretch a flyer now and then, but loves the NM ammo, and id bet handloads even more,
i think 4 groove barrels are great, but love the 2 grooves just a much..
