My 1917's buttplate (early 53,xxx reciever, apparently rebuilt post WWI) with an Eddystone stock is slightly proud on the left side and the toe, barely proud on the right. It does not appear to have been sanded. Most unsanded military stocks I have seen are slightly proud. Hope this helps. CCInformation
