Has anyone got...............
Anyone out there in Forumland got a stash of Bren Mk2 pistol grips. You know the sort, retained with a narrow off-the-shelf standard bolt.
Will swop for a similar quantity of new Mk1 or 3 grips.
The idea of converting/bushing Mk1's to fit Mk2 guns is driving me to distraction! What you got?

For some unknown to me reason, there is a real shortage of Mk2 pistol grips. Usually its the Mk1 stuff where theres shortages.

The last know stocks of MK2 pistol grips was exhausted about 4 years ago , http://www.bren-gun.com hasn't any left either.
Couldn't new ones be made instead of adulterating the last of the genuine MKI grips ?

Needs must and all that! The new made Mk2 butts are absolutely stunning. It's not my job. I'm just advising someone else of the technicalities. But as Mk2 grips are in short supply, it's a good opportunity to investigate the feasibility of converting them. I'm sure that the Indians will have looked into something similar in the past - that or Mk2's to 1's. Anyway, we'll see..............
Thanks for your hep and advice chaps!

Len Savage of Historic Arms had some grips done when he was building semi-auto BRENs. Perhaps he could be persuaded to name his source.
An example is photoed in the auction below:

Luckily all my Indian made and converted Brens have Indian made woodwork.

Needs must or not it seems like a crying shame to to use the small amount of original MKI pistol grips left (if any now)

If you are really interested in new production MkII grips... in bulk quantity... I suggest contacting Matt at Ironwood Designs... he has the production equipment to do it right...

Good idea Wally and others but when you've already got zillions of the Mk1 type it's most economic to find someone to swop some with first.
As a matter of interest, after a few hours on the lathe and with some hard wood (local beech.......) it's relatively simple to machine up a wooden bush to the external and internal dimensions that you need. I rasped two shallow flats down the shaft, glued it and pushed it in then made off good afterwards. If anyone else needs to do this in the future, maybe I can suggest that you fully machine the wooden bush to dimension including the new central bolthole AND top and bottom recesses for the butt slide bolt housing and bolt head. Apart from a few duff starts and re-starts, I did a couple and a sample for whoever eventually has to do the job!
I haven't tried vice-verca yet, Mk2 to 1 but it should be a fairly straightforward boring and counter-boring operation
