newcastle, you are correct. Got one just like it on a sportered SMLE. It's a poor man's ramp front sight. As I understand this was a feature of the Cogwell&Harrison sporterizing jobs back in the 1960's for sale on the U.S. market. Just drive off the front sight blade and it'll lift off. That's all that holds it on.Information
