My M1 Carbine
Hi Guys, I wanted a carbine badly. Well, I got one. Now if you would, I'd like to ask you guy what you think of it.
Bore is beautiful.
Barrel channel of stock has W in a circle.
Hand guard is unmarked
Hammer is marked U
Safety is push button type marked SN or NS
Trigger guard is has flaming bomb: no other markings
Slide has a C AOB (I think)
Bolt is marked IO then a 1 perpendicular to the IO.
Receiver is marked Saginaw S'G'
Barrel is marked Underwood 8-43 and Flaming Bomb
Barrel Band is marked KV-S'G'
I know nothing about these but I'm hoping you guys can school me a bit.
Thank you
I tried to figure out how to load pics from photobucket but it didn't go well.

You have a Saginaw carbine made at their Grand Rapids Michigan plant with a mix of parts. Barrel is probably original since S'G' used primarily Underwood barrels. Hammer made by Underwood, safety is by National Postal Meter, slide is an IBM part. How about the rear sight? flip type or adjustable?

Thanks for the info. Rear sight is adjustable.

Mossy, on the trigger housing, check the inside of the magazine well towards the trigger guard and see if the is a .U. The TG sounds like an Underwood.

Mossy, it sounds like you have a arsenal rebuild. Cool, now you do realize without pictures it never happened

Not complaining, just pointing out - a picture is worth a 1,000 words. The guys on this board can tell you alot more if you are able to post pics. Make them sharp and show detail - and these guys can probably tell you all about your carbine's history.

Hey Mossy, There's a step by step tutorial here -
Why are my images from Photobucket, ImageShack etc. copied to milsurps.com?
Once you have your photos in Photobucket it's very easy. Just copy the 'Direct Link' under the photo and then come back here and click on the little box over the text area that looks like it has a tree in it - a little box will pop up and paste the direct link you copied from Photobucket. Check out the link above and there's a pictorial essay of each step.
We all like to see photos, and sometimes it shows exciting things we'd never know otherwise
